Got Copper? Weld it. Join it. Heat it.

Batteries are making headlines everywhere recently. Mostly, it is because auto manufacturers from BMW to Tesla to Volkswagen are all introducing EV models as fast as they can build them. All those EVs require batteries. A lot of batteries.
All the new electric vehicles are powered by battery packs based on cells like the 18650, 2750 and others. Every pack requires welded copper tabs connecting one cell to another. Traditionally the welding and the joining of other metals to copper is done with ultrasonic welders, spot welders, or IR lasers. However, our solution is better than any of those typical solutions. Here's why...

Copper absorbs certain wavelengths of light better than others. While up to 90% of IR light can be reflected by copper, we've found that blue (455 nm) laser light is readily absorbed by copper. We developed the ClearCut laser for those battery manufacturers and materials processors specifically to take advantage of that absorption.
